“Necessities”?

Every month, a local business group hosts a networking event for young professionals, and I have been trying to attend as many as possible in order to promote my local business (a teaching supply store). The problem is, the events are hosted at bars, and while there is no entrance fee, or membership dues, I do have to pay for food and drink when I go. They have specials, but I don’t feel like $4 for a beer is really a savings, especially when I don’t drink much. Also, the event is less of a networking opportunity, and more of a chance to hang out and chat.

I’ll be going again tonight, but I’m really starting to feel like they are a waste of time and money. Is there a way to network and meet people without spending money?

I started this blog because most money-saving blogs are written by mothers, especially stay-at-home. I do not fit this bill, but I want to save money, and share with others how I do it.
